Prescott Guide invites you to learn about the Artist in Residence program at the Hotel Vendome in Prescott
The arts are an incredible and beautiful part of Prescott. One of the ways Prescott supports the arts is through a great program for budding artists to grow and shine. The Artist in Residence (AIR) program is the brainchild of the Hotel Vendome and was designed to help promote the arts by offering free accommodation to artists - including authors, poets, musicians, photographers and more.
The Residency
In 2017 on the 100-year anniversary of the Hotel Vendome, the Artist in Residence program began. Emerging artists are invited into this two-to-three month program to hone their craft and showcase their artistry.
The hotel has been a magnet for artists of all kinds, and even legendary actor Tom Mix - who starred in over 300 silent movie westerns during the 1920s - lived at the hotel while he filmed his movies in the area. This allows the hotel a unique opportunity to promote art and the history behind it.
Art Space
A section of the lobby will be designated for the artist to work their craft. Artists in Residence are required to hold two to three weekly events, plus a larger monthly event, to showcase their art. These events can include teaching sessions that are open to the public, meet and greets with the artist, and other publicity events.
The artist will be asked to donate to the Hotel Vendome a piece of art that is relevant to the hotel or the city, and reminiscent of their time in the program.
The Artist in Residence program is an amazing opportunity for up-and-coming artists to grow in whatever area of art they are involved, and just one more reason that Prescott is known as “Everybody’s Hometown.” For more information on the arts in Prescott, and to learn more about all that Prescott has to offer, visit http://www.prescottguide.com.
