Prescott Guide shares the mission and history of the Prescott Pops Symphony in Prescott
The Prescott Pops Symphony was created in 1992 by local musicians. These musicians provide performances of light-hearted orchestral music during the summer months. Prescott Guide explains the mission and history of the Prescott Pops Symphony in Prescott.
After being organized in 1992, the Prescott Summer Pops Symphony was first incorporated as a non-profit organization in May of 1996 and led by Conductor Emeritus Paul Manz.
The Pops’ mission is:
Since its early years, ticket sales and attendance for Pops concerts tripled. Due to popular demand for year-round performances, the Pops dropped “Summer” from its name in 2007. The symphony became known simply as the “Prescott Pops Symphony.” The Symphony has grown to support five major productions throughout the year. Included in their agenda are two annual concerts featuring renowned soloists and a full chorus.
The Prescott Pops Symphony has performed nearly 100 concerts for enthusiastic Prescott area audiences. The performers are all volunteers, with up to 80 local instrumentalists and up to 60 vocalists at some concerts. Local guest soloists and conductors also participate. Membership always includes young people from area intermediate and high schools.
